Background:

This is purely a hobbist endevor, motivated simply by the desire for a Rev 0 board to use in my original Apple II.  Also, the flakey nature of the existing motherboards that I have been using, has been a significant motivating factor.  Building a single PCB is not economically sensible, so I have built 6 with the lowest pricing that I could find.  I only need 2 boards, so will be selling kits for other hobbiest that are interested in this project.  I'm not sure if I am going to build more boards after the initial 6 that are made.  I plan on keeping 2 of the 6 for myself.  It depends on response to the initial 4 that are sold (assuming that they sell), as to whether more PCBs are made.

Now the bad news:

I've been evaluting the price for this kit.  Considerations include cost of gathering components, the amount of time it will take me to put them together.  I also want to be able to support you,  in a first class fashion, should you have problems.  Considering all of the above, I've decided I'm going to have to charge $495 to make it worth my while to sell the complete kit to you.  I do not have available power supplies, cases, keyboards or Apple ROMs.  Your best bet is to buy a complete Apple II plus, which are very inexpensive on ebay,  in order to source these components.

Sorry about the relatively high price, but keep in mind that Apple originally charged $895 1977 dollars for essentially the same thing, though it was assembled, tested and included Apple ROMs.

I am using more expensive milled sockets in my project.  They should perform better over time than the sockets that Apple used.  Virtually all the early rev Apple II boards that I have used, have significant issues with intermittant connections.  Should you locate an original rev. 0 board, there is a high probability that it will exhibit problems with intermittant connections either now or in the not too distant future.

The 2513 character generators that I bought, work well, but have a slightly different up arrow and colon characters, than the version supplied by Apple.  As far as I can tell, the other characters are exactly the same, as those on a Apple supplied char ROM.  If this bothers you, you can easily swap a 2513 from an early rev Apple plus board.

Ordering and Availablity:

If you are interested in this project, I would hope that you have some previous kit building experience.  If not, I would start with a smaller project, such as one of those Apple 1 replica kits.  There are over 2500 holes on this board, most of which have the leg of a component in it.  This project cannot be done in one evening.

At this point I have shipped two  kits to "early adopters", who will build them and give me feedback.  While waiting for this feedback,     I am ordering the parts I need for the next small lot of kits.  Due to long lead times on a couple of the components, I expect the next kits to be ready around mid-December.  If you are interested in one of these kits, please send me an email, and I'll put you on the waiting list, first come, first serve.    If you want to find your own components, I'll sell you a bare board now.  Contact me via email for payment information.

Here is a  a rundown on pricing for the kit.
