I cut some paper to the scale size for a shelter half.  Like the soldiers would have done, I used these for the roofs and ends of my models.  One thing I found is that the shelter halves couldn&#8217;t completely cover the ends, so my huts ended up looking like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.willegal.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/model-huts.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"532\" src=\"https:\/\/www.willegal.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/model-huts-1024x532.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9806\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.willegal.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/model-huts-1024x532.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.willegal.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/model-huts-300x156.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.willegal.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/model-huts-768x399.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.willegal.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/model-huts-500x260.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.willegal.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/model-huts.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Model Civil War Winter Huts<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was looking though some original Civil War images for my City Point Model Railroad and noticed that at least one original hut had the same problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.willegal.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/winter-quarters.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.willegal.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/winter-quarters.jpg\" alt=\"Winter Quarters\" class=\"wp-image-9807\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Winter Quarters<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note how the hut on the right has a shelter half that doesn&#8217;t completely cover the end, just like on my model.  Looking at this image more closely,  it does appear that many of the more enterprising soldiers found enough construction materials to solve this issue.
